Saved the life of a Dumb Soul - Asian Palm Civet / Udmanjar (Fatkoora)

 Anil Hundlewadkar and Jotiba Joshilkar, members of World for Nature, managed to catch the rare Asian Palm Civet (Udmanjar) at the house of Dilip Birje in Kini village of Chandgad taluka of Kolhapur dist. This Asian Palm Civet (Udmanjar) has been handed over to the Forest Department after catching safely.
On Friday evening in Kini village, a rare Asian Palm Civet came to the house of Dilip Birje Sir in search of food and water. At this time, Birje’s family members saw rare Palm Civet (Udmanjar) but they all tried to drive him away thinking that it was a wild cat, but Palm Civet entered the shelter of the Birje’s house. As it’s did not come out, the family of Birje called Anil Hundlewadkar, an animal friend of World for Nature in Kini, about this incident.
Anil Hundlewadkar went to the room of the house and tried to catch it, but even after a long time, he could not catch the wild animal. He was eventually captured late at night following a tips from snake lover Jotiba Joshilkar of World for Nature.

On this rescue operation Anil Hundlewadkar, Jotiba Joshilkar, Abhijit Waghmode, Dilip Birje volunteers of World for Nature got support. WFN member informed about this incident in the morning to Prashant Awle, Range Forest Officer of Patne Forest Department and after the information was given to the Forest Department, Forest Guards Deepak Kadam, Hogade of the Forest Department went to the spot and captured the Asian Palm Civet and released it back to its original natural habitat in the forest.
The wild Asian Palm Civet animal is mainly nocturnal. It is also known locally as Fatkoora. This animal that lives in the forest is a mammal and a carnivore, and its food is small animals like mice, birds and insects. It is possible that this Palm cavit has come into human habitation due to the massive forest fires in summer season.
In Chandgad taluka, due to animal awareness and alertness shown by Patne Forest Department, the life of a mute animal was saved. Thank you very much for the work done today is very much appreciate.
