Marvelous Belgaum

Once a wise man said “God calls good people to him as early as possible”. Who knew that the go(o)d man of Belagavi, Shri Suresh Angadiji will leave us soon. Who knew that on the eve of 23rd Sept 2020, many of the Belgaumites will be shocked after realising that the MP of the city, their favourite Suresh Angadi is no more. Former Minister of state of Railways, Member of Parliament from 2004, The famous and successful edupreneur, One of the cleanest politicians of the country, The person who brought the concept of SMART CITY to Belagavi, these are few feathers of the crown of Suresh Angadi. So who was Suresh Angadi? What was his early life? Why was he so close to Belgaumites? Let’s find out!!

Suresh Angadi: Go(o)d Man

This is all where it begun

Shri Suresh Channabasappa Angadi was born on
1st June 1955 in Kanvi Karvinakoppa. He was born to Somavva and Channabasappa He obtained his B.Com degree from S.S.S. Samithi College of Commerce and
 then also obtained a law degree from Raja Lakhamgouda Law College Belagavi. He entered Belagavi politics in 1996 as the Vice President of BJP for Belagavi district. He then became president of BJP for Belagavi district. 

Suresh Angadi continued to stay president till 2004, when he entered the Parliament as Lok Sabha member. holds a record of never losing an election contested. He was consecutively elected as MP in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2019. He took oath as MOS of Railways under Shri Piyush Goyal, the present Railway Minister of India. Suresh Angadi sits in the hearts of many Belgaumites. This is because of the tremendous work he did in the city while representing it in lower house for 16+ years. Some of his works are Schools and Colleges, getting Belagavi selected in the first list of Smart Cities, Making Belagavi an Industrial hub with more diversification, railway over bridges, and many more. These were his achievements before getting the post of MOS. After getting the post of MOS, he brought many railways to the city to connect with hi-tech cities of Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and even Delhi. He got the central approval for Belgaum – Kittur – Dharwad rail route, which was a demand of many years. Other railway related approvals were Longest roll-on, roll-off “RORO” train from Bangalore to Solapur i.e. 682 Kms. Building a railway station near Bangalore International Airport, to connect it with the city and many other railway works like fastening electrification of routes etc.

This is not the end:

Suresh Angadi was a silent but effective personality. He stayed away from chaos, never did any dirty politics and was always against corruption. He was found Covid-19 positive on 11th of September 2020 and was admitted to AIIMS New Delhi. The treatment failed and he left us all in pain on 20th September 2020. He was, is and will be very close to Belgaumites. Let us wish and pray that his soul rests in peace.
