A Boost Under National Tourism Scheme
This funding comes through Part-III of the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment – 2024-25, which focuses on elevating iconic tourist centres to global standards. The allocation not only supports infrastructure growth but also strengthens cultural identity.
Shabari Kolla’s Mythological Importance
According to Hindu mythology, Shabari Kolla is the sacred site where Mata Shabari met Lord Rama and offered him forest berries. Since the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, interest in this holy place has grown significantly. Recognizing this sentiment, Shettar had urged the Prime Minister to take swift action.
Yellamma Temple: A Timeless Spiritual Landmark
The Renuka Yellamma Devi Temple, a revered destination in Savadatti, welcomes lakhs of devotees annually. Now, with central support, the temple complex will undergo modernization to enhance accessibility, facilities, and overall experience—without compromising its sanctity.
Prime Minister’s Office Takes Quick Action
After Shettar’s request, the Prime Minister’s Office promptly directed the Department of Tourism to implement development measures without delay. As a result, the project gained immediate momentum and now features prominently in the state’s tourism plans.
Coordinated Development Under Key Tourism Schemes
The Tourism Department will carry out these developments under national schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and SASC Projects. Moreover, the Karnataka Government has assured full cooperation to ensure timely and effective execution.
Completion Targeted for January 2025
With strong coordination between central and state agencies, the development work at Shabari Kolla and Savadatti is progressing toward a January 2025 target. Once completed, these spiritual hubs will transform Belagavi into a standout destination for religious tourism in India.
