Belagavi: In a tragic industrial accident, three workers lost their lives and five others sustained grievous injuries after boiling sugarcane milk spilled on them at a sugar factory in Marakumbi village, Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred while workers were repairing a leaking valve located nearly 40 feet above the ground. According to sources, the valve suddenly opened, releasing boiling sugarcane milk over the workers, leaving them with severe burn injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Akshay Chopade (45), Deepak Munavalli (31) and Sudarshan Banoshi (25). Two workers died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Five other injured workers are undergoing treatment.
Murgod Police Inspector T.M. Matapathi visited the factory, inspected the site, and collected information. A police investigation is underway to determine the cause of the mishap.
