Speaking after a divisional review meeting in Belagavi on Thursday, the Chief Minister said committees headed by local MLAs will prepare action plans and submit proposals for drinking water projects.

The government has directed officials to prioritise water storage in reservoirs, lakes and tanks to ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply. Shivakumar also instructed authorities to remove delays caused by Forest Department clearances and treat drinking water projects as a top priority.

The Chief Minister said the state is preparing for possible drought conditions despite recent rainfall in some regions. Officials have been asked to ensure adequate availability of drinking water, seeds and fertilisers.

Shivakumar also announced a technical study of irrigation project gates that are over 50 years old, following last year’s collapse of Gate No. 19 at the Tungabhadra reservoir. He said Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have agreed in principle to develop a Tungabhadra balancing reservoir, with a technical committee expected to submit its report within three months.

He further said discussions on linking the Krishna, Cauvery and Godavari rivers are progressing, with the Centre considering the ₹1 lakh crore project for National Project status.

On governance, the Chief Minister said the state’s guarantee schemes will continue, while the government reviews duplicate and ineligible beneficiaries to ensure benefits reach genuine recipients. He also ordered CCTV surveillance at major Muzrai temples to improve transparency in donation management.
