Belagavi: Continuous rainfall since the beginning of July has significantly improved the water level in the Rakaskop Reservoir, bringing relief to Belagavi city. The reservoir’s water level has increased by 13 feet in the last eight days following heavy rainfall in the catchment area.

According to official data, the reservoir’s water level stood at 2,458.80 feet on Thursday, while the full reservoir level is 2,475 feet, leaving it 16 feet short of full capacity. The water level is also 11 feet lower than the corresponding period last year.
The Rakaskop catchment has received 938.5 mm of rainfall so far this season, including 92.5 mm in the 24 hours ending Thursday morning. The steady inflow from streams has helped replenish the reservoir, which had earlier fallen below dead storage due to a delayed monsoon.

The delayed onset of rains had forced authorities to supply drinking water to Belagavi city once every 12 days. While the recent rainfall has eased the situation, officials said the reservoir still requires substantial rainfall in the coming days to reach full capacity.
L&T Company Manager Dheeraj Ubhaykar said continued heavy rainfall will be crucial for the reservoir to fill completely and ensure a stable drinking water supply in the months ahead.
