Belagavi: Three major low-level bridges in Belagavi district’s Chikkodi subdivision have been reopened for traffic after floodwaters receded due to a decline in rainfall across Maharashtra’s Western Ghats.

The reduced rainfall has significantly lowered inflows into the Krishna, Vedaganga, and Dudhganga rivers, leading to a drop in water levels across the region.

Among the reopened routes is the historic Kudachi–Ugar bridge in Raibag taluk, a vital road link connecting Karnataka and Maharashtra. The reopening of the bridge has brought relief to commuters and transport operators in the border region.

In Nippani taluk, the Jattat–Bhivashi and Boj–Kunnur low-level bridges have also been cleared for vehicular movement after water receded.

Of the nine low-level bridges that were submerged in the Chikkodi subdivision, three are now operational, while six bridges remain underwater. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and avoid venturing near flooded bridges until water levels recede completely.
