Scenic locations such as Amboli, Tilari Ghat, Swapnavel Point, Green Valley, Baba Falls and Pargad are witnessing a surge in visitors as the monsoon transforms the region with lush greenery, mist-covered hills and overflowing waterfalls. Tourists from Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Goa and other parts of North Karnataka are flocking to these spots, especially on weekends.

Meanwhile, entry remains prohibited at several popular waterfalls in Khanapur, including Vajrapoha Falls, Vazar Falls, Savtura Falls, Simbola Vazar, Talewadi Vazar, Deochi Nhay and Sundi Falls. The district administration says the restrictions are aimed at preventing drowning incidents, accidental falls and mishaps caused by risky photography near waterfalls.

The ban has affected the local tourism economy, with hotel owners, homestays, eateries, tea stalls and transport operators reporting a significant drop in business during the peak monsoon season.

In contrast, businesses in Maharashtra’s border regions, particularly Chandgad, Tilari and Amboli, are benefiting from increased tourist footfall, boosting hotels, dhabas, roadside vendors and local transport services.

Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said the administration is exploring options to allow safe and regulated access to waterfalls through guided tours or limited-entry batches. “Considering public demand, we are planning to introduce safe and regulated tourism at waterfalls in Khanapur, as most of these waterfalls are accessible only during the monsoon. We respect public opinion,” he said.
