A lion in the Rani Channamma Mini Zoo died of a brief illness, in Bhoot Ramana Hatti village in Belagavi district, on December 2. The 11-year-old lion, Nakul, had been unwell in the last few days. It was suffering from a digestive disorder.
But when asked the officials for confirmation they lied about same saying, “The Lion is fine. It is fake news.” Later during the day, the department officially reported about the death of the lion.
According to the residents of the village, the zoo authorities are indulged in corrupt practices and are not taking good care of the animals.
The lion had been unwell for quite some days yet no proper efforts were made by the authorities to save the lion remarked one of the animal lover.
Thus, appropriate enquiry must take place on the type and quantity of meat being fed to the animals and course of treatment undertaken by the zoo authorities. The state Government must take serious action on such type of negligence by the officials if found guilty.
