Belagavi, June 18, 2025:

Tilakwadi Club Faces Eviction
Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Reshma Talikoti revealed that Tilakwadi Club violated lease terms by running a bar, restaurant, and other businesses without permission. Therefore, the Commissioner’s Court cancelled the lease in May.
Although BCC started the eviction process under the Karnataka Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, the club’s management managed to obtain a court stay. This temporarily halted the action.
During the session, corporators Hanumant Kongali and Ramesh Sontakki criticized the administration. They said that BCC officials allowed this setback by failing to file a caveat before sending the notice. As a result, the club got legal protection with ease.
In response, the law officer explained that legal teams are actively working to get the stay order removed in the upcoming hearing.
Vega Funmobile Tax Dues Mount
Meanwhile, corporators raised another major issue. Vega Funmobile Pvt Ltd owes ₹7.3 crore in property tax, which it has not paid despite receiving two notices.
Talikoti informed the council that the first notice allowed a one-month response time, while the second gave just one week. That deadline ended on June 18. Now, officials will issue a final 24-hour notice on Wednesday, after which seizure proceedings will begin if the company fails to act.
Belagavi (North) MLA Asif Salt suggested a one-time settlement, but officials clarified that current rules do not allow such settlements anymore.
BCC Under Public Watch
With both cases sparking public concern, BCC now faces pressure to act transparently and decisively. Citizens and corporators are urging the corporation to avoid delays and ensure accountability.
Ultimately, BCC must enforce the law without bias and set an example for handling high-profile violations.
