Belagavi:
The Dharwad Bench of the High Court has directed the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) to pay ₹2.18 crore as compensation for land acquired for the Shivsrushti road at Shahapur. The court has also asked the civic body to complete the process and submit an affidavit within two weeks.
The order was passed in connection with land belonging to the Gargatti family, which was used for the construction of the Shivsrushti road. The court clarified that the responsibility of paying compensation now lies with the Belagavi City Corporation, as the road has been officially transferred from the Smart City project to the municipal body.

Earlier, the High Court had taken a strong view over the delay in paying compensation and had even imposed a fine on the Smart City Managing Director. Following submissions that the road now falls under the corporation’s jurisdiction, the court shifted the liability to the BCC.
Notably, while an earlier order had mentioned compensation of ₹17.99 lakh, the revised liability has now been fixed at ₹2.18 crore. With efforts underway to reopen the closed road, the latest court order has put pressure on the civic body to take immediate action.
