Tensions escalated in Belagavi when two youths were arrested by Mal Maruti police for allegedly fighting over petrol near a fuel station, highlighting the growing anxiety among residents.
In Davangere, district officials moved to calm public fears, emphasizing that there is sufficient stock of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. Deputy Commissioner G.M. Gangadharaswamy stated that fuel supplies are stable and are being replenished regularly.
“There is no shortage of fuel, including LPG cylinders. Supply is being maintained as per demand, and services are running normally,” he said.
Officials noted a sharp spike in bookings for cooking gas—nearly five times the usual rate—indicating panic among consumers. Despite this, authorities confirmed that deliveries are being made within 24 hours, and adequate stock is available.

The administration also warned against hoarding and spreading rumors on social media, stating that strict action will be taken against violators. Petrol pumps have been instructed not to fill fuel in cans to prevent stockpiling.
Meanwhile, enforcement teams conducted raids on establishments misusing domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes and seized 90 cylinders. Legal action was also taken against an illegal refilling unit.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, avoid panic buying, and rely only on official information.
