On Thursday, MLA Abhay Patil led a delegation of BJP members to meet Regional Commissioner Sanjay Shettennavar. They submitted a memorandum demanding an immediate election for the 23rd term’s mayor and deputy mayor. Speaking to the media, Patil emphasized the urgency of conducting the elections, as the previous mayor’s term ended on February 14.
He accused the state government of intentionally delaying mayoral elections in BJP-led local bodies, citing similar instances in Belagavi and Gadag. Additionally, he criticized the regional commissioner’s decision to disqualify two BJP members, calling it legally unjustified. The matter is currently being challenged in the High Court.
Patil also raised concerns about the voter list issue, stating that the existing list has already been submitted. Since the case is under judicial review, he argued that revising the voter list at this stage is not feasible.
Several BJP leaders, including Deputy Mayor Anand Chavan, ruling party leader Girish Dhongadi, former Deputy Mayor Reshma Patil, and other members, were present during the meeting.
