Belagavi Member of Parliament Jagadish Shetter met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at his office in the new Parliament building in New Delhi and discussed several important road infrastructure and public transport development projects for the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency.

The MP submitted multiple proposals seeking approval and financial support from the Central Government.
Key Points from the Meeting
1. Road Development under Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF)
- Jagadish Shetter requested approval to improve and upgrade about 80.33 km of roads in the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency.
- The project is proposed under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
- The estimated cost of the project is ₹86.40 crore.
- The MP informed the minister that these roads require urgent improvement to support better connectivity and transportation in the region.
2. Proposal to Convert Gokak–Yaragatti–Savadatti–Dharwad Road into Four-Lane
- Shetter highlighted the need to upgrade the existing two-lane road into a four-lane road from Gokak to Dharwad via Yaragatti and Savadatti.
- This road is the main route used by devotees visiting the famous Renuka Yellamma Temple in Savadatti.
- Due to heavy traffic and increasing vehicle movement, traffic congestion and road accidents are common on this route.
- Considering the rising number of devotees and vehicles in the future, the MP stressed that widening the road to four lanes is essential for safety and smoother traffic movement.
3. Vehicle Tracking System for NWKRTC Buses
- Shetter also discussed a proposal related to the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC).
- The Karnataka State Government has sent a proposal to the Union Ministry seeking ₹25.39 crore.
- The funds will be used to strengthen the Vehicle Tracking System in public transport buses, which will help improve monitoring, safety, and operational efficiency.

4. Nirbhaya Fund Project for Women’s Safety
- Another important proposal discussed was a ₹59.13 crore project under the Central Government’s “Nirbhaya Fund”.
- The project aims to install CCTV cameras in about 1,000 buses, bus depots, bus stands, and divisional offices of NWKRTC.
- The initiative is intended to enhance safety and security for women passengers using public transport in the region.
Minister’s Response
After reviewing the proposals and memorandums submitted by MP Jagadish Shetter, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured that the proposals would be examined and necessary action would be taken after proper evaluation.
The meeting focused on strengthening road infrastructure, improving public transport systems, and enhancing passenger safety in the Belagavi region.
