Belagavi Ring Road Project Stalled Despite Land Handover

Belagavi: The long-pending 70-km Belagavi Ring Road project continues to remain stalled even after land acquisition was completed and handed over to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Although the Karnataka government initiated the project in 2018–19, construction has not begun as the Centre is yet to call for tenders.

The ₹1,364-crore project was planned to ease traffic congestion in the city and promote industrial and commercial growth. Around 1,248 acres of land across 32 villages in Belagavi taluk were acquired, impacting several farmers, including small landholders. Officials said nearly 90% of land acquisition cases have been resolved, while the remaining are pending in court.

Public Works and District Minister Satish Jarkiholi stated that the land has already been handed over to NHAI and urged the central government to expedite the tender process. Once completed, the ring road will connect with NH-749A under the Bharatmala project, ensuring smoother connectivity between Goa, Belagavi, and Hyderabad.
