Belagavi to Get ₹4,000 Cr Ring Road Boost, Says Gadkari

Belagavi Ring Road Work to Begin Soon: Nitin Gadkari

Project aims to reduce travel time between Belagavi and Goa to just 35 minutes

Big Boost to Belagavi’s Connectivity

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that construction of the ₹4,000 crore Ring Road around Belagavi will start soon. This road will connect the Belagavi–Panaji NH-748 with the Belagavi–Goa route via Chorla. A major junction will come up at Bennalli village in North Belagavi.

He made the statement during his visit to Shivamogga district, where he also opened the Kalasavalli–Ambargondlu Bridge.

Land Acquired, Work in Progress

Gadkari said the project has made strong progress on land acquisition. The government has already secured 80% of the land needed.

He also confirmed that 77% of the six-laning work on NH-748, from Belagavi to the Maharashtra border, is complete.

Kalasavalli Bridge Opens

Gadkari inaugurated the new Kalasavalli–Ambargondlu Bridge built across the Sharavati backwaters. The bridge, built for ₹473 crore, includes new approach roads.

This bridge is part of the Centre’s larger push to improve road infrastructure across Karnataka.

Political Boycott by Congress

The event also stirred controversy. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, along with several Congress MLAs, boycotted the function.

They had requested a change in date, which the Centre refused. The boycott reflected tensions between the state and the central government.

Local Doubts About Time-Saving Claims

Gadkari claimed the Ring Road would cut the Belagavi–Goa travel time to just 35 minutes. However, regular commuters remain doubtful.

Currently, a drive from Sanquelim (Goa) to Belagavi takes at least 2.5 hours, even on improved roads. Locals question whether the project alone can deliver such a sharp reduction in travel time.

Economic and Regional Impact

Despite doubts, experts say the Ring Road could benefit the region in the long run. The new road is likely to reduce traffic in the city and boost freight movement.

It will also improve transport between Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, enhancing regional connectivity.
