The victims, Basavaraj Sarave (38) and Maruti Sarave (20), came from Patagondi village in Gokak taluk. Unfortunately, while digging, the loose mud gave way and buried them. One more labourer, however, managed to survive the sudden collapse.

Soon after the accident, locals alerted emergency services. Firefighters and rescue teams responded quickly. They recovered the two bodies and shifted them to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) for postmortem.

This project is handled by a private agency, which was laying pipelines close to the national highway. Many locals have now raised serious concerns about the safety practices at such sites. They believe better supervision and safety checks could have saved these lives.

Moreover, Mal Maruti police officials visited the location and have started a detailed investigation. People in the area are urging authorities to take strict action and ensure the safety of labourers going forward.

In conclusion, this tragic loss highlights the urgent need for safer working conditions in ongoing infrastructure projects across Belagavi.
