Belagavi winter session

The Karnataka legislature’s winter session in Belagavi achieved a historic milestone on Monday by conducting proceedings for an uninterrupted 15 hours, from 10:00 am to 12:55 am. This feat breaks a decade-old record held between 2009-2013 under Speaker KG Bopaiah.

Key leaders from various parties actively participated in the extended session. Speaker UT Khader and Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani efficiently managed the proceedings, ensuring smooth debates despite brief disruptions. Among those present were Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, and Higher Education Minister Dr. MC Sudhakar.

During the marathon session, five crucial bills were passed, and numerous issues were discussed. Members competed to voice their concerns, with JD(S) MLA Karemma G Naik patiently awaiting her turn, supported by fellow MLA Yashvantaraygoud V Patil, who offered his speaking slot.

The extended session aimed to compensate for a reduced schedule caused by two major events: the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya on December 20 and a one-day suspension following the demise of former Chief Minister SM Krishna.

This record-breaking session highlights the legislature’s commitment to addressing pressing matters despite challenges, marking a significant moment in Karnataka’s political history.
