Belagavi Police Focus on Traffic Flow, Not Fines

Officers Now Focused on Flow, Not Penalties
In a recent media briefing, Commissioner Borase explained that nearly 90% of traffic police officers have been reassigned to active traffic regulation roles. Instead of collecting fines at intersections, officers now guide vehicles, manage junctions, and ensure smooth movement throughout the city.
This shift comes in response to increasing complaints from commuters about traffic delays and confusion. By placing more officers on the ground, the department aims to build a safer and more efficient traffic system.
Digital Fine Notifications via WhatsApp
To make the process of paying fines more convenient, the department has introduced digital notifications. Instead of issuing fines on the spot, officers now send violation details directly to the violator’s WhatsApp number.
This system allows citizens to pay their fines at any Belagavi One center, reducing confrontation and preventing unnecessary hold-ups at traffic signals. It also increases transparency and simplifies the fine payment experience.
New Rules for Truck Movement
In addition to officer reassignment, the police have imposed time restrictions on heavy vehicles entering the city. Trucks are now allowed inside city limits only during specific off-peak hours.
These restrictions help reduce road congestion during busy times and lower the risk of accidents involving large vehicles. The move is especially effective on narrow roads and at busy intersections.
Road Repairs and Data-Driven Planning
Belagavi Police are also coordinating with municipal and public works departments to repair potholes and damaged roads. These improvements are expected to reduce travel delays and create a smoother commute for drivers.
At the same time, a comprehensive traffic study is underway. With support from Bengaluru-based traffic consultants, the department is collecting data on traffic volume, accident-prone areas, and peak-hour flow. These insights will help design smarter signal timings and support long-term infrastructure planning.
A Citizen-Centric Strategy
Commissioner Borase stressed that the police are not just enforcing rules—they’re working to serve the people of Belagavi. He encouraged citizens to follow traffic laws, stay informed through official channels, and support the department’s new initiatives.
By combining better planning, on-ground management, and citizen cooperation, Belagavi is moving toward a more organized and commuter-friendly future.
