Addressing Post-Harvest Losses

Highlighting the challenges faced by farmers, Shettar stated, “25-30% of agricultural and horticultural produce is wasted annually due to the lack of cold storage facilities.” This new infrastructure will significantly reduce these losses. Farmers will be able to preserve perishable crops like potatoes, chili, vegetables, fruits, and pulses for extended periods.

Boosting Farmers’ Profitability

The facility will enhance the quality, freshness, and nutritional value of stored produce. It will also ensure better market rates and minimize distress sales. This initiative fulfills a long-standing demand from farmers, especially those cultivating perishable crops.

A Step Towards Agricultural Development

During a bankers’ meeting on September 27, Shettar encouraged NABARD officials to prioritize the cold storage project to support the region’s agricultural growth. He emphasized that this facility will transform the lives of farmers in Belagavi and neighboring areas.

Stay tuned for updates on the development and operational timeline of this much-awaited facility.
