Belagavi: The death toll in the tragic accident at the Inamdar Sugar Factory near Marakumbi village in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district has risen to seven after four more injured workers succumbed to their injuries on Thursday. One more worker is in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when a blast took place in the first compartment of the factory during repair work. During the mishap, boiling liquid from the boiler spilled on the workers, leaving eight of them severely injured.
All the injured were shifted to KLE Hospital in Belagavi for treatment. Three workers died on Wednesday, while four others died on Thursday despite medical care. The condition of Raghavendra Mallappa Giriyal (36) from Gilihosur village in Gokak taluk remains critical and he is being treated in the intensive care unit.
As news of the successive deaths emerged, grief-stricken family members gathered at the hospital, and the incident has sent shockwaves across the region. Police and factory officials are continuing investigations into the cause of the accident.
