The protesters, including a large number of women, gathered at Channamma Circle, raised slogans against the unchecked liquor trade, and later marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. A memorandum urging strict action was submitted to the government through the DC.

Addressing the gathering, KRS leader Prakash Nayak alleged that liquor was being sold illegally through grocery stores and paan shops in several villages. He claimed that the trade was continuing with the alleged connivance of officials from the police and excise departments, leading to a rise in alcoholism and severe hardship for poor families.

Women participants highlighted the social and economic problems caused by alcohol consumption and said repeated complaints to the authorities had gone unanswered. They alleged that instead of curbing the illegal trade, officials were supporting those involved.

Leaders including Shivanand Mugalihal, Kishan Nandi, Asma Jutadar, and others were present during the protest.
