Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, Mr. Patil said the State government has proposed two defence corridors — Bengaluru Rural–Kolar–Chickballapur and Dharwad–Belagavi–Vijayapura — with the proposal already submitted by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

He highlighted Karnataka’s significant contribution to the aerospace and defence sector, accounting for nearly 65 per cent of the country’s output, supported by a strong ecosystem. With the existing Aequs SEZ for aerospace components in Belagavi, the government aims to further expand industrial activity by utilising the 3,000-acre industrial estate being developed in Dharwad district under the Bengaluru–Mumbai Industrial Corridor project.

The Minister also said the government is exploring the potential for aerospace industries in North Karnataka along with the Bengaluru rural region. Emphasising balanced regional development, he noted that the new industrial policy focuses on promoting investments outside Bengaluru, offering additional incentives of 3 to 5 per cent for industries set up in backward and more backward taluks.
