Kidwai Cancer Hospital Belagavi

Belagavi, April 24:
Three years after its grand announcement, the Kidwai Cancer Hospital in Belagavi is still waiting to begin. Although the project holds great promise for the region, progress has remained painfully slow.

In 2022, the state government allocated ₹50 crore to build the hospital. Initially, the health department chose a four-acre site near the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Vadgaon. The health commissioner even visited Belagavi to inspect the location.
However, in September 2022, the district administration shifted the plan. Instead of Vadgaon, the hospital was now planned at the BIMS Hospital premises. Kidwai authorities approved this new site, and many hoped that work would start soon.
Unfortunately, nothing has moved since then.
MLA Abhay Patil, who represents Belagavi South, pushed hard to bring the hospital here. He wanted the facility in his own constituency. Although the budget and approvals were in place, construction never began.
As a result, local residents continue to suffer. Many cancer patients must still travel to Bengaluru for treatment. This not only adds financial pressure but also increases health risks during long travel.
District in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi has acknowledged the issue. He promised to review the project status and take steps to begin work. However, without a clear deadline, people remain doubtful.
Belagavi urgently needs better cancer care facilities. If the government prioritizes this project, the Kidwai Cancer Hospital Belagavi could save many lives across North Karnataka.
So far, people are waiting—but for how much longer?
