Belagavi, March 25: Members of the Jain community will organise the Janma Kalyanaka festival of Lord Mahaveer in Belagavi from March 25, with a series of cultural, social, and religious events planned over several days.

Cultural programmes and competitions will be held till March 27. A blood donation camp will be organised at Gomatesh Vidyapeeth on March 28, along with a play on the life of Lord Mahaveer performed by children.
Highlighting the major events, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will inaugurate an Ahimsa Rally at CPED grounds on March 29. On the same day, the Utsav Samiti will felicitate KLE Society honorary chairman Prabhakar Kore at Mahaveer Bhavan for being selected for the Padma Shri award.
A grand procession will be held on March 30 from Tilak Chowk, to be inaugurated by Lalit Sanghvi Kataria, president of the national unit of the All India Jain Kataria Foundation.
Utsav Samiti chairman Sanjay Patil said the Mahaveer Jayanti celebrations have been organised in Belagavi since 1999. Committee members and other organisers were also present during the announcement.
