Belagavi, December 28, 2024 – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during a condolence meeting at CPED Ground on Friday. The event initially marked the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s 1924 Congress presidency but shifted focus to honor Singh after his demise on Thursday night.

Siddaramaiah reflected on Singh’s famous words that “history would be kinder to him,” stating that they had come true. He praised Singh as a humble, honest, and soft-spoken leader who shaped India’s economic and political landscape. Singh’s Food Security Act, Siddaramaiah noted, inspired welfare schemes like the current central government’s free rice initiative.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar proposed creating an economic research center in Singh’s name at Bangalore University, emphasizing his contributions as an economist and policymaker. Law Minister H.K. Patil highlighted Singh’s role in uplifting India’s middle class and applauded his resolve to fight poverty through impactful policies.

The meeting featured a documentary showcasing Singh’s remarkable journey and contributions, leaving attendees inspired by his vision and service.

This tribute underscored Singh’s enduring legacy as a leader who prioritized the nation’s development and welfare.
