Belagavi ₹2 Crore Land Scam: 9 Booked

Belagavi: Police in Belagavi district have registered cases against nine persons, including a sub-registrar, for allegedly attempting to illegally take over land worth ₹2 crore using forged documents.

Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said the cases were filed at Hukkeri, Sankeshwar and Yamakanamaradi police stations following a complaint by Shivanand Maruti Kudduri, a resident of Kuruni village in Hukkeri taluk. The complainant alleged that the accused colluded with government officials to fabricate documents and grab his land.

The accused include sub-registrar Madiwalayya Basavaraj Banimath and bond writer Anand Diddimani. Police have arrested several individuals in connection with the case, while some others surrendered before the police after obtaining anticipatory bail.

During raids conducted as part of the investigation, police recovered 22 fake documents, including counterfeit Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and EPIC cards, from a suspect’s residence. Officials also seized cameras, computers and printers from a local studio that were allegedly used to prepare forged documents.

Police said further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud.
