The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening in the Super Specialty ward. Nurse Basavaraj Kabadagi, who was on duty at the time, said a mentally unstable minor patient spilled drinking water on the floor. When he asked her not to do so, she allegedly bit him. He stated that he pushed her away in self-defence, after which seven of her relatives allegedly attacked him, causing injuries.

Condemning the assault, nursing staff said they provide round-the-clock services with dedication but face increasing risks at the workplace. They urged the district administration to take immediate steps to protect healthcare workers.
BIMS Director Dr. Ashok Kumar Shetty confirmed that the injured staff member is undergoing treatment. He said a case has been registered at the APMC police station and added that letters would be sent to the Deputy Commissioner and the Police Commissioner seeking enhanced security at the hospital to prevent such incidents in the future.
