As of Wednesday morning, Belagavi district received 23.7 mm of rainfall, which is 384% more than the normal average of 4.9 mm. Belagavi taluk alone recorded 58.8 mm, marking a 705% increase, while Khanapur taluk saw 103.2 mm, a 529% surge.

The region hasn’t seen this level of June rainfall in the past four years, except for June 16 and 17 of 2021, when it recorded 28 mm and 46 mm respectively.

🏙️ Urban Flooding and Chaos

Heavy rain submerged several parts of Belagavi city due to clogged stormwater drains and overflowing nullahs. Areas like Yellur, Shastrinagar, Old PB Road, Khade Bazar, and Kapileshwar Colony experienced severe flooding as water entered homes and streets. The Ballari Nala overflowed into nearby neighborhoods, triggering panic among residents.

In Kangrali KH village, floodwaters covered the main road. Yediyurappa Road, a major entry point into the city, also saw heavy waterlogging, leaving many commuters stranded.

🌾 Farmlands Under Water

Floodwaters from the overflowing nala spread into hundreds of hectares of farmland between Alarawad and Sambra along the national highway. Local farmers suffered major crop losses, especially in paddy, cabbage, and beetroot cultivation.

🚦 Traffic Disruptions and Jams

Traffic came to a halt under the Gandhinagar bridge, where large pools of water collected. Vehicles heading towards Yaragatti, Dharwad, and Sambra faced serious delays. Several city roads turned impassable due to stagnant water.

💼 Daily Life Disrupted

Business operations slowed significantly after three consecutive days of rain. Visitors struggled to find shelter, and people across both urban and rural areas faced major inconvenience.

⚠️ Orange Alert Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for June 26, predicting continued heavy rainfall in Belagavi and nearby Western Ghats districts. The forecast suggests more rain is likely over the next two days.
