Belagavi Development Works Reviewed by MP Jagadish Shettar

A comprehensive review meeting on the progress of various development works was held in Belagavi under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan, said Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar. Officials from the Railway Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Airport Authority participated in the meeting.

Railway Department

  • Progress of the Belagavi–Kittur–Dharwad new railway line was reviewed.
  • Out of the required 1,200 acres, around 407 acres of land acquisition proposals worth ₹149 crore have been submitted to the state government.
  • The Deputy Commissioner assured that funds would be released soon, after which land would be handed over to Railways and tenders invited.
  • For LC No. 381 near Tilakwadi, permission has been sought from the Police Commissioner to divert traffic for second line works; construction is expected to begin soon.
  • Issues related to road overbridges near LC No. 382 and 383 were discussed, with officials assuring early resolution and start of work.
  • Problems faced by farmers near Sulebhavi village due to a railway overbridge were reviewed, and Railways assured steps to provide early relief.
  • Construction of a railway overbridge near Khanapur is delayed due to lack of forest clearance; instructions were given to provide necessary approvals at the earliest.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)

  • The six-lane Belagavi–Sankeshwar highway project was found progressing slowly, causing traffic congestion. Officials were directed to expedite and complete the work immediately.
  • The Halaga–Mache bypass road project, delayed beyond its deadline by over a year, was discussed, and strict instructions were issued to complete it soon.
  • For the Belagavi–Hunagund–Raichur road, under Phase-1, land acquisition for 35 km out of 43.8 km has been completed. Officials assured that remaining land would be acquired and work started shortly.

Belagavi Airport Development

  • Officials informed that airport expansion is delayed as the required land has not yet been handed over by the Indian Air Force.
  • MP Jagadish Shettar said the issue would be taken up with the Defence Minister and also raised in the Parliamentary Defence Committee to ensure early resolution.

The meeting was attended by Special Land Acquisition Officers Jainapur, Chauhan and Kavita Yogappanavar, NHAI Project Director Bhuvanesh Kumar, and Airport Authority Director Thyagarajan, among others.
