Belagavi, March 14, 2025: A 19-year-old youth was caught and handed over to the police after allegedly engaging in stone pelting at Ashwathama Temple in Pangul Galli late Wednesday night. The incident occurred under the Market Police Station limits, raising concerns over communal harmony in the city.

Incident Details

According to Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang, the accused, identified as Yashir from Ujwal Nagar, threw a stone at the temple gate while under the influence of alcohol. As soon as the stone pelting at Ashwathama Temple took place, local residents intervened, restrained him, and tied him to a pole for questioning. Initially, he reacted aggressively but later admitted his mistake and pleaded for forgiveness.

Community Concerns

During the interrogation, the accused reportedly mentioned a previous incident involving a burqa dance, adding to the existing communal tensions in the city. Given the ongoing debates on religious harmony and sensitive issues like love jihad, locals have expressed concerns over such acts disturbing peace.
