The article speaks about one of the oldest fort of Karnataka state in “Venugrama” district… What wait!!! Venugrama? Never heard about it right? I’m taking about “Belgaum”. The fort was ruled by many dynasties and have made numerous changes in the fort according to their convince. Built by Ratta dynasty in 13th century by Yakub Ali Khan of the Bijapur Sultanate, we are talking about Belgaum Fort. This 13th century structure still stands strong. The rulers ruled over this fort are must to know, starting with Rattas, Shatavahanas, Chalukyas and even Kadambas from Goa have ruled over the region.
Rashtrakuta Dynasty, when they shifted their capital to Belgaum. Belgaum was highlighted over that period and other ruler had a bad eye over it, over the period of time dynasties like Vijayanagara emperors, Bijapur Sultans or Bahmanis, The Marathas (Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja) and also by the end the Britishers too.
Having so long epic history, it legacy doesn’t end up over in history, many of the freedom fighters sacrificed they life for the freedom and to get free from crucial British rule and fort has been a witness of the same.
