The initiative aims to identify ineligible beneficiaries and replace their BPL cards with Above Poverty Line (APL) cards. However, the move has affected several genuinely poor families, leaving them deprived of essential health and welfare benefits.

The Food and Civil Supplies Department, in coordination with Income Tax and Revenue departments, is verifying families with higher income, large land holdings, or frequent bank transactions.
According to official reports, over 7.76 lakh cards have been found ineligible by the Central Government, while the State Government has identified 13.87 lakh such cases. The campaign will continue in phases, and families found providing false information may face penalties, officials said.
