Addressing the Central Government

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the 201st Kittur Utsav, CM Siddaramaiah confirmed that his government previously sent a detailed proposal to the Centre. However, he also pointed out a related issue. A separate request to name the Belagavi Airport after Rani Chennamma has received no action for a year. Consequently, he is pushing for immediate consideration of both demands.

“Rani Chennamma fought the British on October 23, 1824,” CM Siddaramaiah asserted. Indeed, she did this long before Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi’s famous revolt. Furthermore, he emphasized that Chennamma, along with her trusted allies Sangolli Rayanna and Amatur Balappa, chose to fight for dignity instead of surrendering. He called their defiance a powerful symbol of Karnataka’s pride and historical significance.

Spreading Awareness and Unity

He reminded the gathering that his government initiated the celebration of Kittur Chennamma Jayanti in 2017. Specifically, the goal was simple: to spread awareness of her unparalleled bravery. “This was not a political move,” he insisted. Rather, it served as an earnest effort to teach future generations about her exceptional courage. Moreover, he urged all citizens to maintain unity, rising above divisions of caste and religion.

Support from Leaders and Scholars

Other dignitaries strongly supported the CM’s stance. MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar praised Siddaramaiah for backing the long-standing local demand for national recognition. Likewise, MLA Babasaheb Patil added his voice. He urged the government to focus on tourism development and actively preserve Kittur’s crucial historical landmarks.

Prof. C.M. Tyagaraj, Vice-Chancellor of Rani Chennamma University, spoke about the festival’s deeper meaning. He said the annual festival reflects India’s enduring patriotic spirit. “Kittur is not merely a place,” he remarked. Instead, “It is a living symbol of resistance.” Religious heads, including Madivala Rajayogindra Swamiji, formally supported the call for national monument status for Kittur Fort. In conclusion, Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Asif (Raju) Sait, and Vishwas Vaidya were among the many other dignitaries who attended the important event.
