Tucked away in the lush greenery of the Western Ghats, Vajrapoha Falls is one of North Karnataka’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Located about 1.5 hours southwest of Belgaum and just 8.5 kilometers from the village of Jamboti. Cascading from a height of nearly 200 meters (660 feet), Vajrapoha Falls comes alive with thunderous energy during the monsoon season, making it the perfect rainy or winter getaway.

Fed by the Mandovi River—also known as the Mahadayi—which originates from the rain-rich highlands of Gavali, Hemmadaga, Kankumbi, and Talawade, the falls surge with power during the peak rains from June to October. The surrounding region receives up to 5,700 mm of rainfall annually, enveloping the area in mist, vibrant greenery, and a symphony of cascading waters and birdsong. The trail to reach the falls involves about a kilometer of walking on a non-motorable and slightly slippery path, so it’s advised to wear good shoes and plan the visit carefully, especially with elderly travelers.

Standing before the falls, you’re treated to an unforgettable view: shimmering white water tumbling like a sheet of soft ‘poha’ into a deep green valley, with the Sahyadri mountain range stretching far into Goa on one side and Karnataka on the other. It’s one of those rare spots where you can almost plant a foot in both states while soaking in nature’s raw beauty. The valley views are just as captivating as the falls themselves, with golden sunlight dancing off the water, sometimes creating a sparkling silver hue that’s perfect for photographers and nature lovers.

Whether you’re looking for a family outing, an adventurous monsoon trek, or just a peaceful escape into nature, Vajrapoha Falls promises an experience that’s nothing short of magical. Just remember—it’s best visited in the monsoon or winter months for full effect. Carry your camera, pack your snacks, and get ready to discover a hidden jewel near Belgaum that will leave you awestruck.
