Belagavi: The long-pending demand to bifurcate Belagavi district remained unresolved during the recent winter session of the state legislature, leaving agitators disappointed despite sustained protests and repeated appeals to the government.

The issue was raised in the Assembly, and the revenue minister had assured that a meeting of all legislators from the district would be held to build consensus. However, no such meeting took place during the session. Women and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said the chief minister was keen on resolving the issue, but differing demands from various delegations delayed a final decision.

Meanwhile, a recent government notification merging 35 villages from Savadatti taluk with Bailhongal taluk has added a new dimension to the district reorganisation debate, strengthening demands for Bailhongal district status.
