Drugs, Mobile Phones Thrown Into Hindalga Jail Premises

Belagavi — Alok Kumar, Director General of Police, Karnataka State Prisons and Correctional Services Department, paid an unannounced visit to the Belagavi Central Jail as part of the “Prison Reforms Resolve Campaign.”

During the inspection, prison officials recovered prohibited items including a Redmi Android mobile phone, a Samsung basic handset, a damaged adapter and three USB charging cables. Following the seizure, a case was registered at the Belagavi Rural Police Station under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022 (FIR No. 240/2025 dated December 23, 2025).

Officials said action will be taken against those involved in bringing and using the banned items inside the jail. Officers and staff who participated in the surprise inspection were rewarded with ₹5,000 cash and appreciation certificates for their efforts.

According to the in-charge Superintendent of Belagavi Central Jail, a total of three FIRs were registered between December 11 and December 24, 2025.
