Police detained nearly 50 protesters outside the corporation office during the demonstration and later released them.

The issue was raised during the corporation meeting by member Ramesh Sontakki. However, the proposal faced opposition from three Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) members, while BJP councillors were unable to reach a consensus.

Mayor Preeti Kamkar later ruled that the matter should be referred to the State government for its opinion. The corporation subsequently decided to send the issue to the government.

Kannada organisations strongly criticised the BJP for not supporting the resolution. Ashok Chandargi, convenor of the central committee of Kannada organisations, accused the party of ignoring the sentiments of Kannadigas and trying to secure Marathi-speaking votes.

He also announced that Kannada organisations would intensify protests across Karnataka, including demonstrations in Bengaluru.

Several activists, including Wajid Hirekodi and Srinivas Talukar, participated in the protest.
