At a meeting held at the Foundry Cluster Hall on Thursday evening, representatives from more than 20 organizations discussed key concerns impacting the city’s future growth. The issues highlighted include railway overbridge projects, the long-pending ring road, the delayed Cities 2 project, neglected CDP and STP plans, HESCOM power station upgrades, the GAIL gas pipeline, and biogas initiatives.
Experts at the meeting raised concerns over “unscientific” railway overbridges already constructed in the city, warning that additional flyovers could negatively affect urban development and traffic management. They suggested elevated railway tracks as a better long-term solution, citing successful examples from other cities.

FOAB also expressed concern over delays in the ring road project due to pending land acquisition in two villages, which has worsened traffic congestion in Belagavi. The organization warned that the Cities 2 project may slip away due to administrative negligence, causing a major setback to the city’s development plans.
The meeting further highlighted the urgent need for updated city development planning, improved sewage treatment systems, and additional power infrastructure, including a 400 KV power station and new substations, to meet the growing demands of the expanding city.
FOAB leaders said they will soon meet the Deputy Commissioner, district in-charge minister, and local legislators to seek immediate action on these critical issues.
