Speaking after the inspection, Jarkiholi said concerns among farmers and residents over delayed monsoon rains were gradually easing. Continuous rainfall over the past few days has significantly increased inflows into the Hiranyakeshi and Ghataprabha rivers, helping the Dhupdal reservoir reach its full capacity.

According to the minister, the reservoir is currently receiving around 8,000 cusecs of water. Excess inflow is being released into the Ghataprabha River, improving downstream flow towards Bagalkot district.

To support irrigation needs, 1,000 cusecs of water was released into the Ghataprabha Left Bank Canal on Sunday morning. Jarkiholi directed irrigation officials to increase the discharge to 2,000 cusecs by evening, a move expected to benefit nearly two lakh hectares of agricultural land in the command area.

While expressing satisfaction over the improved water situation, the minister cautioned that rainfall patterns remain unpredictable and urged farmers to use available water wisely. He also instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted water supply for irrigation, drinking and other essential purposes, adding that reservoir levels and inflows would be monitored continuously to safeguard farmers’ interests.

Several irrigation department officials and local leaders accompanied the minister during the inspection.
