Farmers Seek ₹3 Crore Per Acre for Rail Project Land

Belagavi: Farmers on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding ₹3 crore compensation per acre for fertile agricultural land being acquired for the Belagavi–Dharwad direct railway line project.

The protesters, led by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, argued that the proposed compensation of ₹30 lakh per acre is far below the market value of the land. They urged the government to adopt a compensation model similar to the one used for the Bidadi Township land acquisition.

The farmers submitted a memorandum to the district administration, warning that they would oppose the project if fair compensation was not provided. MLC Channaraj Hattiholi visited the protest site and expressed support for their demands.
