The proposal seeks to hand over Albert Ekka Road, Smart Road and Queen Garden Road to the Army, while Gymkhana Road, currently under Army control, would be transferred to the Cantonment.
In a letter to the Cantonment CEO, the DC said permanently closing the roads could divide the city and create difficulties for residents, school students and emergency services. He stressed that these roads have long connected residential areas, schools and markets.

The DC also raised concerns over the proposed iron arches on Independent Road and Gymkhana Road. He directed the Cantonment authorities to put the proposal on hold until a comprehensive assessment of traffic impact and alternative routes is completed.
He further called for a public meeting to record citizens’ objections and suggestions. The district administration has urged the Cantonment to take no final decision until all aspects, including public convenience and emergency access, are examined.
