Belagavi: The process to transfer 756 acres of civil area under the Belagavi Cantonment Board to the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has officially begun.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan said a detailed report of nearly 700 pages has been submitted to the state government. The report covers residential and commercial properties, bungalows, vacant sites, markets and roads within the civil area.
The Urban Development Department will examine the proposal before it is placed before the state Cabinet. If approved, the proposal will be forwarded to the Central government, whose clearance is mandatory for the transfer.
Roshan said the Belagavi Cantonment Board is facing liabilities of around ₹350 crore, making the proposed transfer important for the administration and maintenance of civil areas.
He clarified that military areas will continue to function separately as military stations. Safeguards have also been put in place to prevent misuse of cantonment properties during the transition.
The final transfer will take place only after approvals from both the state and Central governments.
