Smart City Managing Director Kavita Warangal said that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had identified certain gaps in the implementation of the Cities 2.0 project. A report has been submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs seeking financial and technical support to strengthen waste management and promote sustainable urban development in Belagavi. The new project components were finalized after discussions with the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, she added.
During the meeting, ruling party member Ravi Dhotre emphasized that the Cities 2.0 project should benefit citizens. However, he said the Smart City authority should not bypass the municipal corporation while approving and executing the works, warning that any legal complications should not become the corporation’s responsibility.

Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi pointed out that the Smart City authorities had not held discussions with stakeholders before moving forward with the project and said such consultations should have taken place.
At the start of the meeting, nominated member Ramesh Sontakki objected to the short notice for the council meeting, stating that the agenda was provided only after the mayor took the chair. In response, Hanumant Kongali, leader of the ruling party, clarified that the meeting had been called at short notice to take an urgent decision on the Cities 2.0 project.
Later, Mayor Mangesh Pawar approved eight major projects under the Cities 2.0 initiative.
