The Belagavi Police have issued clear instructions to drivers and officers to prevent avoidable accidents. Sugarcane-laden lorries and tractors will not be allowed to stop on roads and highways. Vehicles must have functioning brake lights and signals, and sugarcane trucks and tractors—loaded or empty—must display reflective or luminous posters or flags at the rear.

Drunk driving laws will be enforced strictly, with cases to be booked under serious criminal sections, Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said. Police will also take legal action against vehicles emitting high-decibel noise, in line with court directions.

Under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, violations related to road safety, noise, or air pollution can attract imprisonment up to three months, a fine of up to ₹10,000, or both. The Environment Protection Act, 1986, provides for imprisonment up to five years or a fine up to ₹1 lakh for serious offences.

Transporting dangerous materials in violation of the law is prohibited. As per Section 190(3) of the Motor Vehicles Act, offenders may face fines, imprisonment, and licence disqualification, with stricter penalties for repeat offences.

Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against all violators.
