Strong Financial Growth
According to Chairman Balachandra Jarkiholi, this achievement was possible due to cost-cutting and corruption-free management. Last year, the union made only ₹68 lakh in profit. This year, it jumped to ₹13.20 crore.
In addition, BEMUL’s annual turnover increased from ₹320.83 crore to ₹399.50 crore. That’s a 24% growth compared to the previous year.
“We avoided unnecessary expenses and focused on efficient operations,” Jarkiholi said.
Benefits for Farmers and Growth Plans
BEMUL will not keep the profits for itself. Instead, it will use the money to support farmers and improve its operations. The funds will help:
- Strengthen milk producer societies
- Upgrade machines and storage
- Expand milk processing facilities
- Start new units for milk by-products
Currently, the union has 1,002 cooperative societies, and 610 of them are active. Among these, 160 are led by women. On average, 2.10 lakh kg of milk is collected daily — a 22% rise from last year.
Wider Reach and Product Sales
BEMUL has increased its product supply across Karnataka and nearby states. For example:
- 80 lakh litres of milk sold in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh
- 3.80 lakh litres of ghee sold
- 41.12 lakh litres of curd sold
- 1.73 lakh kg paneer and 74,000 kg kunda sold
- Daily sales of 50–100 yogurt buckets (10 kg) in Belagavi and Goa
- 5,000 litres of buffalo milk supplied daily to Mumbai
In February, BEMUL also supplied 2.5 lakh buttermilk packets to Saundatti Sri Yallamma temple.
Animal Care and Insurance
To support farmers, BEMUL insured 12,797 cows with a 75% subsidy. As a result, ₹1.22 crore has been paid to owners of 245 cows that died. Furthermore, artificial insemination services were given to 1.34 lakh cows.
Future Expansion Plans
BEMUL is now planning a ₹350 crore high-tech mega dairy. The union is looking for land near a river or dam, close to the National Highway. This new facility will use modern technology and improve capacity.
In addition, BEMUL has saved ₹2.52 crore in expenses this year.
Pending Government Incentives
However, the union is still waiting for ₹9 crore in pending incentives from the Karnataka government. This amount was due to farmers from December 2024.
