Renowned entrepreneur and social leader Satish R. Tendulkar has been elected as the new President of The Belgaum Cloth Merchants Association (BCMA). Consequently, he now represents North Karnataka’s largest textile, handloom, and silk fraternity. The announcement was made during the association’s Annual General Body Meeting. Following this, Tendulkar and the new office-bearers formally took charge.

New Leadership Takes Charge

The newly elected team includes Shri Satish Tendulkar as President. Furthermore, the association chose Shri Mukesh J. Sanghavi and Shri Raju Paliwala as Hon. Vice Presidents. Shri Mukesh Khoda assumed the role of Hon. Secretary. Moreover, Shri Kamalesh Khoda became the Hon. Joint Secretary, Shri Lalchand Chapru was named Hon. Treasurer, and Shri Nitesh Jain took up the post of Hon. Joint Treasurer. Finally, the outgoing president, Hemendra Porwal, officially handed over the charge to the new leadership.


Vision for Belagavi’s Textile Sector

In his inaugural address, Satish Tendulkar emphasized Belagavi’s historical significance as a national-level textile hub. Specifically, he highlighted that the city’s textile sector is crucial, contributing nearly 65% of the city’s GDP and providing employment to over 35% of the local population—a figure comparable to the industrial sector.

Ultimately, Tendulkar promised members that his tenure would focus on essential market improvements. These include enhanced cleanliness and parking facilities. In addition, he will prioritize better safety, security, and theft prevention. He also committed to the installation of women’s pink toilets and drinking water facilities. Additionally, the plan covers shuttle bus services and better management of hawkers in the market area. Beyond these operational changes, a major goal announced by the new President is the plan to propose a highly equipped Textile Cluster for Belagavi to the State and Central Ministries of Textiles. Therefore, this initiative aims to strategically position the city as a modern textile powerhouse on the national stage.


Tendulkar’s Legacy of Civic Leadership

Satish R. Tendulkar is a seasoned businessman and Director of the 95-year-old M/s Textile House at Khade Bazaar. Indeed, he has a long and active history of civic and business leadership in Belagavi. For instance, his past roles include serving as the youngest President of the Chamber of Commerce. Subsequently, he led the effort to remove Goa’s entry tax for Belagavi traders. Furthermore, he initiated train connectivity as the Chairman of the SW Railway Users Consultative Committee. Finally, he helped to establish the Passport Office in Belagavi as the President of the Belgaum Post Forum. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the newly elected Secretary, Shri Mukesh Khoda.
