Grand Decorations and Preparations

The Karnataka government has allocated ₹8 crore for a week-long beautification effort. Consequently, Belagavi has been transformed into a visual delight for the Centenary Celebrations of the 1924 Congress Session. Iconic landmarks such as Rani Channamma Circle, Sangolli Rayanna Circle, and Suvarna Vidhana Soudha are illuminated with dazzling lights. Interestingly, the decorations have been curated by the same team responsible for Mysuru Dasara’s famous displays.

Earlier this week, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched the ‘Gandhi Bharat’ programme logo at SVS. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar reviewed preparations at key locations like Gandhi Bhavan, Gangadhar Rao Deshpande Memorial, and Veera Soudha. Moreover, Shivakumar emphasized the year-long efforts to spread Gandhiji’s messages. Specifically, these efforts will focus on non-violence, patriotism, and equality.

Highlights of the Celebration

The ‘Gandhi Bharat’ programme will officially launch on December 26–27, 2024. Key events include:

  • Congress Working Committee Meeting: Attended by 150 MPs, 40 Block Congress Committee presidents, and chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from various states.
  • Photo Exhibition: Featuring Gandhiji’s life and messages at Gandhi Bhavan in Peeranwadi.

Year-Long Programmes Across Karnataka

Celebrations will continue across the state until October 2, 2025. During this time, events will highlight Gandhiji’s life, struggles, and role in the freedom movement. Additionally, plans are underway to develop sites associated with Gandhiji’s visits. For example, Hudali village, where he stayed during the session, will receive special attention.

In conclusion, Belagavi’s transformation into a vibrant hub of history and culture is a fitting tribute to Gandhiji. Furthermore, the Centenary Celebrations of the 1924 Congress Session honor the city’s historic role in India’s freedom struggle.
