Belagavi: In a major boost to the city’s public transport system, the Centre has approved 100 electric buses for Belagavi under the PM-e Bus Seva scheme, Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi announced.

According to a release from his office, the approval was confirmed during the ongoing budget session of Parliament in New Delhi. Responding to a question raised by MP Kadadi, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu informed that Rs 6.8 crore has been sanctioned for setting up a control room and related infrastructure in Belagavi.
The Centre has also approved supporting facilities, including charging stations, depot infrastructure, and other technical systems required to operate the electric buses. The initiative aims to modernise the city’s public transport network and promote clean, sustainable mobility.

Kadadi further stated that 750 electric buses have been approved for 10 cities across Karnataka, with Rs 77 crore sanctioned for depots and related infrastructure development.
Highlighting other development works, the release noted that under the Smart City project, Belagavi has developed 12.3 km of smart roads featuring pedestrian-friendly stretches and dedicated cycle tracks. Meanwhile, the NHAI ring road project to ease traffic congestion is progressing, with tenders for the first phase under way and DPR preparation ongoing for the remaining phases.
