Belagavi, Feb 24: A tragic accident near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, claimed the lives of six pilgrims from Gokak, Karnataka, in the early hours of Monday. The victims were returning from Prayagraj when their MUV crashed into a road divider, resulting in multiple casualties.

Fatalities and Injuries

According to reports, six people died on the spot, while two others sustained severe injuries.

Deceased:

  • Balachandra Goudar (50)
  • Sunil Shedshyal (45)
  • Basavaraj Kurti (63)
  • Basavaraj Dodmal (49)
  • Iranna Shebinkatti (27)
  • Virupakshi Gumati (61)

Injured:

  • Mushtaq Shindikurbet
  • Sadashiv Updali

The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigation and Authorities’ Response

Local authorities and highway patrol teams arrived at the accident site to manage the situation. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding or driver fatigue could have been possible reasons for the crash. However, officials are conducting further inquiries to determine the exact cause.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, and their families in Gokak have been informed. Arrangements are being made to bring the bodies back to Karnataka for last rites.
